[Seasonal fruit] Pione
Pione has recently become more common in supermarkets.
A type of black grape, it is a hybrid of Kyoho grape and Muscat grape cultivated by a Japanese grape grower about 50 years ago.
Originally named "Pioneer", the name was changed to the Italian word "Pione" which means "Pioneer".
Pione and New Pione.
If you're perusing the fruit section of a supermarket, two names might catch your eye.
The difference is that pione is seeded and new pione is seedless, but recently even if it is written as pione, it is often seedless.
New Pione also has a high sugar content and is easy to peel off, so it is recommended when you want to make sweets or eat it as a snack.
